<p>a new flyfishing book for muskies by Robert Tomes, published by Wild River Press</p>
<p>By esoxrube</p>
<p><span style="font-size: x-small; font-family: Verdana;">Few fish inspire the single-minded obsession, total dedication, and physical stamina it takes to catch the mighty muskellunge on a fly rod. Known universally as “the fish of 10,000 casts,” this giant freshwater predator grows to lengths of 50 inches and weights of 40 pounds. It is one of the toughest fish to fool on any kind of gear.</span></p>
<div><span style="font-size: x-small; font-family: Verdana;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"></span></span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: x-small; font-family: Verdana;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;">What muskie anglers are saying about Muskie on the Fly</span></span></span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: x-small; font-family: Verdana;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;">This is a big, handsome book that makes sense of<br />
an arcane subject. I’ve done just enough muskie<br />
fishing with a fly rod to know that the information<br />
here rings true.<br />
<span style="color: #993300;">John Gierach<br />
</span>Author of the classic Trout Bum (1986) and 14 other<br />
best-selling books of essays on the fly-fishing passion<br />
Lyons, Colorado</span></span></span></span></div>
<p><span style="font-size: x-small; font-family: Verdana;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"><span style="font-size: small; color: #32598b; font-family: Helvetica-Condensed;"></p>
<div>
Having seen a muskie slash off a weed line on Webster<br />
Lake to take a streamer author Robert Tomes was<br />
casting, I am now a believer. But not everybody has<br />
the opportunity to see the thrilling take in person.<br />
Guiding readers through the culture of muskie fishing,<br />
then enticing them into the subculture of fly fishing<br />
for the fabled freshwater predator is Tomes’s gift in<br />
Muskie on the Fly. He demystifies muskie fishing in<br />
general and builds a case why fly fishing is at times<br />
a better option. And he does it by combing basics—<br />
flies, rods, lines, approaches, waters, guides—with<br />
personal experiences and guide tales that is a hybrid<br />
rare in the outdoor press. I have faith: This is a<br />
fishing bible.<br />
<span style="color: #993300;">Dale Bowman<br />
</span>Chicago Sun Times Outdoor Editor<br />
Chicago, Illinios</div>
<div>
Muskie on the Fly will attract adventurous fly fishers<br />
to the pursuit of the muskellunge and cause traditional-<br />
gear muskie fishers to take up the fly rod.<br />
With great detail on the species, great fly patterns<br />
for the chase, detailed instructions on technique,<br />
and color illustrations and photographs throughout,<br />
Robert Tomes leaves out nothing of importance.<br />
<span style="color: #993300;">Larry Ramsell</span><br />
Renowned muskie-fishing expert and author of A<br />
Compendium of Muskie Angling History (2007)<br />
Hayward, Wisconsin</div>
<div>
At long last—a book that deals with this exciting<br />
and often overlooked game fish. Guru Tomes knows<br />
how to tackle this legendary fish of 10,000 casts<br />
and now he shares his secrets with us. Muskie on<br />
the Fly will shorten your learning curve. Whether<br />
you chase muskies with a fly or conventional gear,<br />
this book is a must!<br />

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">Recently updated as of September 2007 the new Simms G3 sport a high-tech GORE-TEX Pro Shell – its supposed to be tougher and more breatheable than the older GORE-TEX shell.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>How tough you ask?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Well in the immersion test they simply stopped at the 544 hour mark.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">   </span>Other brands started failing after 2 hours right on up to 100 hours.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>With that being said they also have the 5 layer fabric covering the legs and butt.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Now simms has you covered!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>The rest of the fabric is a nice 3 layer material.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>I was concerned about the extra layering and how comfortable it would be to kneel down or even bend your knees.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>With the stitching along the front and back it is actually quite surprising how comfortable movement is.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>These are truly high performance waders.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>I have to say after one afternoon wearing these waders that these are some of the best waders available dollar for dollar.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>They are comfortable for all day wear and come with some really cool bonuses as well.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>The chest pocket has hand covers that are fleecy and warm on the inside, flip out tippet tender and retractable clip, Deet and saltwater resistant, nice gravel guards and feet material.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>I have to say the contruction is also top notch.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">Simms Warranty:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 8.5pt; color: #000000; font-family: Verdana;">The &#8220;Simms Warranty&#8221; is administrated entirely by Simms</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">The Simms warranty is also very good. Workmanship and materials are Guaranteed for the life of the product – of course this doesn’t cover the normal things like accidents, improper care and normal wear and tear.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">30 day across the counter warranty exchange – this is a great reason to go buy them and fish the hell out of them right when you get them.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">Now here is the best one the first repair is on Simms – if they are damaged in an accident within the first year.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Who else does that?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;">All in all some of the best days of my life have been spent wearing Simms waders – thank you guys keep up the good work.</span></p>
